WASHINGTON (apro).- Jaime González Durán, alias “El Hummer,” who was one of the main operators of the Los Zetas cartel, was sentenced to 35 years in prison and the federal court of the District of Columbia (Washington DC) ordered the confiscation of approximately $792 million in properties, other assets and bank accounts as part of the punishment imposed on him.

"El Hummer" was found guilty of all charges against him: drug trafficking, money laundering, illegal weapons possession, and controlling routes for Los Zetas. The sentence established that González Durán was responsible for smuggling approximately 450 kilos of cocaine and approximately 90,000 kilograms of marijuana to the United States.

Court documents filed by the U.S. Department of Justice establish that, as a member of the Los Zetas terrorist organization, "El Hummer" was responsible for controlling drug trafficking routes from Mexico to the United States and was the leader of his organization's gunmen or hitmen, who intimidated or eliminated members of opposing organizations.

The Department of Justice maintains that Los Zetas and its members, such as "El Hummer," are extremely violent narcoterrorist organizations and that, in this case, the convicted man used his position to ship significant quantities of cocaine and marijuana from the state of Tamaulipas and other Mexican states to various cities across the United States.

The U.S. government emphasizes that the sentencing of "El Hummer" sends a clear signal to Mexican narco-terrorist groups that the U.S. justice system will be relentless and will apply the full weight of the law to those who contribute to the poisoning of thousands of people through the sale, distribution, and trafficking of narcotics.
